Moving and Handling Assessments

Moving and handling of people in their daily routines

We will assist individuals with limited mobility or physical disabilities in performing everyday tasks and activities. Moving and handling people in their daily routines involves a holistic approach that considers physical abilities, safety, client preferences, and ongoing assessment and adaptation. This supports clients in maintaining their independence, improving their functional abilities, and enhancing their overall quality of life.

We will assess individuals’ physical abilities and limitations such as their strength, degree of movement, and any specific challenges they face. We will analyse the specific tasks that the individual needs assistance with, such as getting from a bed to a chair, getting in and the car or in /out of the bath.

Safety for the individual and handler is considered during the handling process. This may involve teaching and using a transfer board, hoist, and slings, good body mechanics, and techniques for lifting, positioning, transferring, and supporting that minimise the risk of injury. We will complete a moving and handling plan for your carers to follow and advise of any changes to reactivate a further assessment. This swill assist you to have your care delivered that promotes yours and your carers safety and well-being.

We will assess for single handed care to support the appropriate care, treatment in the clients environment.

Individual Training

We will offer individual training in techniques that allow them to participate in their own transfers to the best of their abilities. This promotes a sense of autonomy and can contribute to clients’ overall physical well-being. We will also educate carers, family members, and support staff on safe manual handling techniques. This is crucial for ensuring that the client receives consistent and appropriate assistance.

We may suggest modifications to the environment to make manual handling tasks easier and safer. This could involve rearranging furniture, installing grab rails, or using specialised seating.

Over time, we can assess clients’ progress and adjust their manual handling plans accordingly. As clients gain strength or experience changes in their condition, their handling needs may evolve.
